In books on Islamic logics, one can find discussions such as contradiction, simple conversion, and the like. The apparent difference in the logicians’ view regarding the status and importance of such discussions raises questions on the status and importance of the ‘rules of propositions’ for Muslim logicians and the changes they underwent throughout the history of logics, as well as their effect on logics. In the present article, we have divided, on the basis of the findings extracted from the books written by earlier and later logicians, the course of evolution in rules of propositions (with a stress on categorical propositions) into three historical eras. In each era, we have identified the chapters in the authors’ books while considering the date of their living, to mention the status of ‘rules of proposition’ in those books as well as some of those rules stated there.
