One of the key subjects of interest in the works of theistic philosophers is the concept of man’s deification or becoming God-like. The central question of this study is whether it is possible for human beings to assimilate to God, and if so, what the path to achieving this god-likeness is. The historical course of this debate can be traced through the works of ancient Greek and Christian philosophers, and subsequently, Islamic philosophers. Adopting a historical-analytical approach, this study investigates the views on the deification of man from the perspective of ancient Greek and Christian philosophers. The common denominator among these philosophers regarding human deification—in addition to acknowledging its possibility—stems from their shared anthropological outlook. This perspective emphasizes the spiritual and intellectual dimensions of the human being, while simultaneously underscoring the importance of the practical dimension on the path to deification. Nevertheless, distinct differences persist among the specific views of these philosophers. Furthermore, the profound influence of Christian religious doctrines is highly evident in the theorizations of Christian philosophers on this subject.
