The diverse perspectives on religious science reflect the intellectual diversity in this field. Ayatollah Javadi Amoli's theory of religious science, as one of the prominent theories in this realm, has garnered special attention among thinkers. The institutionalization of this theory could lead to a momentous transformation on a global scale. The present research examines the challenges and functions of his theory of religious science. The research findings indicate that challenges such as the conflict with atheistic science, the tension between reason and revelation, the institutionalization of nature over creation, the potential conflict between the results and products of empirical knowledge with religious science, the establishment of a Western identity-subverting science, the challenge of the conflict between revelation and reason, and the existence of a Qaronic mode of thinking among scholars are among the major obstacles to the realization of religious science. Each of these challenges requires independent research; however, in this study, we have limited ourselves to explicating them and providing a concise response. Furthermore, the functions of this theory include a maximalist approach to religion, the unity of science and religion, the comprehensiveness of cognitive sources, human perfection, attainment of a virtuous life, the unity of the seminary (Hawza) and the university, the synergy of reason and revelation, acceleration in the process of civilization-building, access to a source beyond reason, and the resolution of the conflict between science and religion. These functions not only pave the way for transformation in Islamic civilization but also provide a platform for interaction among various fields of knowledge. This research emphasizes the importance of this theory as a solution to contemporary challenges and as a means of harnessing emerging opportunities.
